Pretoria - Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Rejoice Mabudafhasi will hand over 400 school desks to Litshovhu Secondary School on Friday in Madombidzha village in Limpopo.

“In response to a letter, the Deputy Minister commissioned a needs assessment exercise at the school, which indicated that the classes are overcrowded, the desks are damaged and other learners sit on the floor… She prioritised the provision of the 400 school desks in preparation for the matric final exams…” ministerial spokesperson Peter Mbelengwa said.

He said Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi will hoist the national flag at the school in pursuit of promoting national identity, nation building and social cohesion as well as to instil the spirit of patriotism and love for the country.

“The handing over of these desks and the hoisting of the national flag will be incorporated with the Shining Stars Matric Fridays campaign of the Department of Education in Limpopo.

“The campaign encourages the broader community to wear school uniform on Fridays.

“The objective of this initiative is to encourage communities to support learners as they approach their final examinations and send a clear message to learners that the nation is behind them and they should work hard without any distractions or disturbances,” Mbelengwa said.

Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi would be joined by Limpopo MEC for Education Thembi Nwendamutswu, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Nandi Ndalane and Vhembe District Mayor Tshitereke Matibe at the handover ceremony. – SAnews.gov.za
