Pres Zuma to hold mining meeting

Monday, September 7, 2015

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will on Tuesday convene a meeting of the Mining Sector National Consultative Forum.

The forum, chaired by the President, brings together government, organised labour and organised business to discuss developments in the mining sector.

The forum, which meets regularly, was established in 2013 to implement a framework agreement for a sustainable mining industry following the violence that erupted in the platinum belt in 2012, including the tragic 2012 Marikana tragedy.

“The framework agreement for a sustainable mining industry is a joint commitment by all stakeholders to bring stability, growth and transformation in South Africa's mining industry,” said the Presidency.

Tuesday’s meeting comes after leaders of business, labour and the government signed off last week on a deal aimed at boosting the mining sector. – SAnews.gov.za
