Pretoria - Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) has appointed Khanyisile Kweyama, the Executive Director of Anglo American South Africa, as its new CEO.
Anglo American has agreed to second Kweyama to BUSA for a two-year term with effect from 2 January 2015.
Jabu Mabuza, President of BUSA, welcomed the appointment, saying Kweyama brings with her a wealth of business experience gained across a number of sectors.
“This will help us lead BUSA in projecting a compelling voice for businesses in South Africa in the interests of our members. I am grateful to Anglo American for agreeing to second Kweyama to us for a minimum of two years and I look forward to working with her and the board as we work collectively to help South Africa meet the objectives of the National Development Plan and to grow our economy to its fullest potential.”
Kweyama said: “I am delighted to be taking up the role of CEO of BUSA in what is a most critical time for business and government to better understand each other and to work towards our common goals. Given the right regulatory and fiscal parameters, businesses in South Africa are the force that can be unlocked to make the investments necessary to grow, create jobs and deliver the economic upliftment that we all want for our country.”
Cas Coovadia, who was seconded by the Banking Association of South Africa (BASA) to BUSA as Acting CEO -- at the request of the BUSA Board -- will step down on 12 December 2014, having completed the responsibilities he undertook.
He will resume his position as MD of BASA on a full-time basis.
