Abidjan - The special representative of the UN secretary general in Cote d'Ivoire, Choi Young-jin, on Tuesday met with a delegation of three presidents from the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) on the post-election crisis.

The trio had come to find a solution to the political standoff after Cote d'Ivoire held the second round of the presidential elections on November 28.

The delegation, comprising presidents Pedro Pires of Cape Verde, Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone and Yayi Boni of Beni, delivered the message from the extraordinary summit of the Ecowas held on December 24 in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

A statement from the UN Operations in Cote d'Ivoire (ONUCI) indicated that the mission's head briefed the Ecowas delegation on the electoral process.

In its latest statement regarding the situation in Cote d'Ivoire, Ecowas, just like the rest of the international community, recognised the victory of Alassane Ouattara and asked incumbent Laurent Gbagbo to hand over power to the winner.

In this regard, the regional body dispatched a delegation of three presidents to ask Gbagbo to leave power or face a military intervention.
