Abuja - Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has solicited the support of all citizens at home and in the diaspora in his agenda of transforming Nigeria in the next four years.

Jonathan made the call on Saturday at the presidential inauguration banquet held at the banquet hall of the presidential villa, Abuja.

The president said the task of nation building could only be made possible by collective efforts of every Nigerian.

"All hands must be on deck to build a nation of peace and progress that was the dream of our forefathers ... To build such a nation, we shall always seek the wisdom of our elders and honor them with respect. A new Nigerian nation beckons and together we can make it," the Nigerian leader told his audience.

According to Jonathan, Nigerians gave him a rare opportunity to rule the nation, saying he could not afford to fail them.

The president said his election is a new dawn, a new beginning of bright hopes and positive change.

He maintained that with commitment, determination and hard work, the country would take its rightful place as the giant of Africa.

The president thanked Nigerians for voting for him in the general elections that had been adjudged free, fair and credible.

President Jonathan eulogized the late former president, Umaru Yar 'Adua, for his selfless service to the country, noting that Nigerians would forever remember him with pride.
