Ministers meet over plans for single African air transport market

Pretoria – Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has led a delegation from her department to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia to attend the first meeting of the Ministerial Working Group on the establishment of a single African air transport market.

“The Addis Ababa meeting follows the meeting of the Ministerial Working Group on the establishment of a single African air transport market hosted by the South African Department of Transport under the auspices of the African Union at the Velmore Hotel Estate in Pretoria on 21 January 2015,” Department of Transport spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi said.

The meeting extensively dealt with the proposed road map for the full implementation of the Yamoussoukro Decision on the liberalisation of air transport markets in Africa and the initiative to establish a single African air transport market.

It also dealt with the benefits of liberalisation of air transport markets and unification of the air services market in Africa; the institutional and regulatory framework for the management of liberalised air transport markets in Africa and for the Single African Air Transport Market.

The two-day meeting in Ethiopia started on Thursday. – SAnews.gov.za
